Tabaxi are tall, lithe cat-folk with patterned fur, keen senses, and an untamable curiosity. Many trace their lineage to Maztica across the western ocean, though generations of sailors, scouts, and artisans have long made the Sword Coast their home. A love of stories, craftsmanship, and exploration defines their culture.
Standing between six and seven feet tall, Tabaxi are lean and agile, with long tails and sharp, expressive eyes. Their coats display stripes, spots, or rosettes; their movements carry feline grace even on two legs. Agile climbers and sprinters, they navigate ship rigging, desert dunes, and city rooftops with equal ease.
Tabaxi names often derive from nature or poetic imagery, chosen to reflect personality or aspiration. Common remains their everyday tongue, though fragments of the ancestral T’Aan Tabaxi survive in stories and songs. See: T’Aan Tabaxi (language) .
Storytelling, craftsmanship, and travel form the heart of Tabaxi life. They are often wanderers, collectors of tales and curiosities, and artisans who pass knowledge through apprenticeships. Clans vary from nomadic caravans to established guild families.
In Amn, Tabaxi are most visible as navigators, mapmakers, and crafters of precision instruments. Within Athkatla, the Guild of Navigators — or Gremio Ukatsi — stands as their most powerful clan. This guild claims descent from the first Tabaxi settlers who crossed the sea from Maztica, bringing both craftsmanship and mystery to the City of Coin.
Among the Navigators, craft and devotion quietly intertwine around Bastara, the Divine Eye of the Desert. Learn more in The Path of Bastara.
