¶ Overview
T’Aan Tabaxi is the ancestral tongue of the feline humanoids known as the Tabaxi.
It originated in the distant jungles of Maztica, where it once flourished as the common language of great hunter tribes and storyteller-clans.
Today, it is seldom heard beyond that continent.
Most Tabaxi living in Faerûn have been there for many generations, and their connection to Maztica has grown subtle.
Yet, in scattered corners of the world, small Tabaxi enclaves keep the language alive — not through books or script, but through oral tradition.
¶ Cultural Role
Elders often recount fables, hunting songs, and dreams in T’Aan Tabaxi, teaching cubs the cadence of their ancestry.
Though many words fade between generations, certain phrases survive in daily speech — fragments of a nearly forgotten melody.
Rumors persist of isolated tribes or archaic monastic orders that still speak T’Aan Tabaxi fluently, treating it as a sacred meditation — a means of communing with the primal spirits of wind, sand, and moonlight.

While the written form of T’Aan Tabaxi is largely lost, scholars of the Arcanists’ Collegium have begun documenting the remnants found among Guild of Navigators records and Caravaneer trade songs.
Such studies often fail to capture its rhythm — for to speak T’Aan Tabaxi truly is to purr a story into being.
