“The desert has many tongues — some whisper, some roar, and some sing to the stars.”
— Saying of the Caravaneers
The lands of Amn host a wide range of peoples, each shaped by the harshness and wonder of the desert.
Among them, three species are most prominent: Antro (humans), Goliaths, and Tabaxi. Others — elemental-blooded Genasi, wandering Elves, or secretive Tieflings — dwell along the trade routes and city fringes, but their numbers are fewer.
While trade and gold bind them together, language and culture mark their differences. In Athkatla, the Common tongue serves as the bridge between all peoples.
The most numerous and influential of Amn’s peoples, Antro are found in every city, trade post, and caravan. They are pragmatic, ambitious, and endlessly adaptable.
Their cultures vary widely between cities, but all share a devotion to trade, craft, and survival.
Languages: Common
Traits: Adaptable, versatile, and quick to master any skill that promises profit or prestige.
Children of the Cloud Peaks and the Small Teeth, Goliaths are towering nomads and mountain-dwellers. They live by codes of endurance and strength, often forming tight-knit tribes that wander the high passes or serve as guards to Caravaneer routes.
Their voices carry far across the rocks, speaking a booming, rhythmic tongue inherited from the giants of old.
Languages: Common, Giant
Traits: Hardy, honorable, and bound by challenge and self-reliance.
Graceful, feline wanderers known for their curiosity and artistry. The T’Aan Tabaxi, in particular, are desert-dwellers renowned for their star charts, navigation tools, and spiritual craftsmanship.
Many serve in guilds or as artisans in Athkatla, while others follow secretive celestial callings tied to their ancient cults.
Languages: Common, T’Aan (Tabaxan)
Traits: Agile, inquisitive, deeply spiritual; drawn to patterns, music, and maps of light.
Rare and awe-inspiring, the Genasi of Amn are born where the elemental planes brush against the desert — near places where Chatan veins run deep or storms touch the earth.
Each bears the mark of their elemental ancestry: flowing hair of flame, skin of shifting sand, or voices that echo like wind. They are both revered and feared as living conduits of the elements.
Languages: Common, Primordial (and one sublanguage — Aquan, Auran, Ignan, or Terran, depending on lineage)
Traits: Elementally attuned, unpredictable, and often isolated due to superstition.
| Language | Speakers | Description |
